Transform Your Nose

If you’re dissatisfied with the appearance of your nose, you may be a good candidate for rhinoplasty, referred to colloquially as a nose job. Whether you are looking for a subtle or dramatic change, Dr. Manuel Gigena at MG Plastic Surgery in Scottsdale, OR, will deliver beautiful, natural-looking results.

What Is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure designed to improve the nose. Most people seek this procedure to make the following improvements:

  • Correcting asymmetry
  • Reangling the slope of the nose
  • Eliminating bridge humps or bumps
  • Narrowing the width of the bridge
  • Changing the contour or proportion of the nose tip
  • Modifying the size or shape of the nostrils

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

For patients who would like to subtly alter their nose to create more facial harmony, ethnic rhinoplasty enhances your unique genetic makeup with changes that look natural. A successful approach performed with an artistic touch will help your nose appear less distracting without fully westernizing it, improving facial balance through customized alterations that still honor your cultural identity.

Who Qualifies for This Procedure?

For the most part, someone who wishes to improve the appearance of their nose will be considered a good candidate for this procedure. That said, an evaluation is required to ensure you meet all criteria to qualify for rhinoplasty.

It is imperative to refrain from consuming tobacco products or alcohol for several weeks before and after your procedure. You must also be in reasonably good health and have realistic expectations about the results and recovery process.

How the Closed Approach Works

In an endonasal approach, all incisions are made inside the nostrils. In other words, at no point during your nose job will your nose be opened up. We will make parallel incisions that run approximately halfway up the lining of your inner nostrils.

People love this approach because the recovery period following a closed nose job is much shorter than the recovery period following an open nose job. Additionally, nobody will be able to see the incisions as they heal.

How the Open Approach Works

Despite a slightly longer recovery period, we recommend an open approach when extensive structural changes are required. Like the parallel incisions made during a closed approach, semicircular incisions are made inside the nostrils and are invisible as they heal.

A trans-columellar incision across the septum connects the two semicircular incisions, allowing access to the nose’s cartilage by enabling us to push up your nose skin. If you think your nose is disproportionately small, we can graft cartilage from another part of your body, like your ear, onto your nose. Notably, the trans-columellar incision will heal shortly after your procedure and will not scar.

What Can I Expect During the Recovery Process?

Your activities will be restricted for a week or two, depending on the extent of your surgery. You will need to refrain from lifting anything heavy or engaging in vigorous activity for six weeks.

It can take up to a year to see the final results of your procedure. The skin heals fairly quickly after rhinoplasty; however, the cartilage takes considerably more time to heal.
