Reshape Your Arms

At MG Plastic Surgery, we know that sagging skin underneath the upper arms can be stubbornly resistant to a healthy lifestyle and create a troubling, unflattering appearance. With skill and precision, arm lift surgery can tighten and reshape the upper arms to create a more youthful and attractive contour. With the look you desire within your reach, you can regain the ability to wear whatever you like out in the world with confidence and ease.

What Is an Arm Lift?

Brachioplasty, more commonly known as arm lift surgery, improves the appearance of the upper arms by removing the excess, hanging skin and reshaping the remaining tissue to look more toned and fit. An increasingly popular procedure, arm lift surgery helps men and women address aesthetic concerns about their upper arms that may be resistant to diet and exercise.

The arms often prove challenging to remove excess fat, and even toned arms can still experience loose sagging skin. Dr. Manuel Gigena brings a wealth of experience to help his patients in Scottsdale, AZ, achieve more sculpted arms that they feel excited to show off again. His surgical excellence and comforting bedside manner will help you feel at ease every step of the way.

Brachioplasty Techniques

Three distinct techniques can be implemented to achieve the arm lift you desire – standard brachioplasty, extended brachioplasty, and mini brachioplasty. The quantity of excess fat and skin in the upper arms will determine which technique Dr. Gigena will use to reach your aesthetic goals.

Standard Lift

Using an incision that traces along the inner arm from the elbow up to the armpit, the standard technique removes excess fat and skin from the arm in patients with mild to moderate levels of skin laxity. The incision is closed with sutures, and the surgical scar is hidden by its discreet placement.

Extended Lift

For patients who have lost a dramatic amount of weight, a longer, L-shaped incision is traced from the chest to the bottom of the armpit and down the inner arm to the elbow. This technique allows Dr. Gigena more space and flexibility to reshape the contour of the arm, ensuring stunning results.

Mini Lift

For those with minimal drooping of the upper arms, a mini brachioplasty allows for a smaller incision in the armpit to improve skin laxity. The discreet location of the incision easily hides the scar for the most seamless, natural-looking results.

What Happens During the Procedure?

Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia or IV sedation with local anesthesia. The procedure typically takes one to two hours to complete. Dr. Gigena will discuss your surgical plan from start to finish, including the brachioplasty technique and whether liposuction is recommended for optimal results. The surgery will carefully remove excess skin and fat before proportionally reshaping the arm to balance your figure. Dr. Gigena uses great skill and artistry to ensure a natural-looking outcome.

Recovery

The healing times and results vary for each patient based on their unique anatomy. Bruising and swelling appear post-surgery and subside within the first week. Dr. Gigena will wrap your arms in compression sleeves to minimize swelling and allow the arms to adapt to their new contour.

Pain can be managed with prescribed medication. You must be careful not to overextend or flex your arm at the elbow for three to four weeks to ensure proper healing. The results tend to be visible immediately, although the final results will appear gradually as the swelling subsides.
